Zoey’s journey began when she was just three years old, a lively and energetic child full of life and joy. Her safe and happy childhood was filled with warmth, humor, and boundless happiness. But one moment changed everything.
The disease that Zoey had was not discovered until she was three years old. She was, like most children, a whirlwind of energy before she got sick.
She enjoyed a safe and content upbringing. She radiated friendship, laughter, and joy. Zoey collapsed one day while playing. A few weeks later, she could no longer use both hands. As soon as Zoey’s parents saw something unusual, they rushed her to the hospital emergency room.
There was something they heard that would forever be etched in their memories and hearts. Their beloved newborn, who was bursting with life and love, was diagnosed by a doctor with DIPG, a rare and dangerous brain cancer.
“It’s pretty much a death sentence,” Casey’s mother said. “We were at a loss as to what to do or where to go.
A family experiences a terrifying tragedy and a nightmare that no one would wish to happen to their worst enemy.
But because of Zoey, they managed to stay calm and exert their strength. Zoey underwent many treatments for cancer over the next two years.
The family discovered a radiation therapy facility in Germany, and Zoey thrived there. But eventually, she stopped answering.
Her problems gradually worsened. It was impossible to understand how things were developing. On July 4, 2018, Zoey passed away quietly at her American home.
Her parents quickly realized that despite the obvious horror of their impending loss, they could share some special final moments together.
Even after she died, Zoey continued to bring joy to everyone around her. Before it was too late, her parents begged her friends and family to visit her.
Now her mother had the courage to post their last family portrait on Facebook.
“Even though it’s a terrible time, it’s a beautiful time from our perspective,” Casey added.
The picture shows the parents hugging their beautiful daughter. As they sat down on the couch, the family dog joined them. They sang Disney songs all day.
A Harry Potter movie was playing on the TV. Then Zoey disappeared into peace without a trace. Midway through the movie, Zoey’s heart stopped.
At first, I didn’t think I would be one of the families sharing their stories because there were only a few. But later I thought, “I need a picture like that.” I want a record of those moments so I can remember them even if my brain fails,” she remarked.
On Zoey’s Light Facebook page, Zoey’s family hopes to spread the joy and light she brought to the world in the years before her passing. They want to show how to live more authentically and deeply by sharing an ordinary day with Zoey.
You two were the best parents in the annals of time, Casey and Ben. My pleas will never stop. Zoey is now a guardian angel for us all.
My Zoey, take a nice nap.
Casey and Ben, Zoey’s parents, have shown unwavering strength and love throughout their journey. Their devotion to their daughter is unmatched and they remain in the thoughts and prayers of countless individuals. To all who knew her, Zoey became a guardian angel watching over them from above.
May Zoey find eternal peace and may her radiant spirit continue to touch lives and remind us all to cherish the moments of love, joy, and connection we have with each other.
