Reba has unquestionably experienced trouble and misfortune.
March 16, 1991, marked a tragic event for her, as she tragically lost seven members of her band and her tour manager in a catastrophic plane crash that occurred while they were performing.
The memories of that fateful day in 1991 still linger in her mind. While heading to her workplace, she heard the news of the accident on the radio, causing her heart to skip a beat as she feared Reba might have been aboard the ill-fated aircraft.
However, fate had a different plan.
Reba and her band had actually concluded a performance in San Diego on that very day, and they were en route to their next destination, Fort Wayne, Indiana, for the upcoming stop on their tour.
At the San Diego airport, two planes stood ready: one carrying the band members and tour manager, and another where Reba, her husband, and manager opted to stay overnight.
Tragically, the first aircraft vanished, met with an unfortunate fate around 10 miles to the east of the airport.
Over the years, Reba has consistently honored the memory of her dear friends who were lost in that heartbreaking incident.
In a deeply moving conversation with Oprah Winfrey in 2012, she opened up about the tragic day when her band members lost their lives.
During the interview, she recounted the heart-wrenching details of the accident, revealing that the airplane’s wing grazed against a rock situated on the side of Otay Mountain, resulting in the loss of all individuals aboard the plane, as McEntire shared with Winfrey.
Upon receiving the distressing news, Narvel, Reba’s manager, approached their pilot to deliver the shattering update. In the early hours of the morning, around two or three o’clock, Narvel returned to the hotel room where Reba anxiously awaited. It was there that he disclosed the heartbreaking truth of the plane crash, prompting an immediate inquiry about the fate of those on board. Sadly, his response carried uncertainty, indicating his belief that survival was unlikely.

Narvel embarked on a solemn pilgrimage, traversing from one room to another, gripping a phone tightly as he dialed and made calls.
