At the age of eighteen months, Howard made his film debut in Frontier Woman. He appeared on stage in The Seven Year Itch when he was two years old.

Ron Howard became famous for his portrayal of Opie on The Andy Griffith Show from 1960 to 1968, following his early entry into the entertainment industry.
Playing Griffith’s son, Howard enjoyed the support of his parents, who were also in the entertainment industry.
Ron remembers a conversation he had with his parents as a child. “Remember how we said, ‘You can do it if you want to, but you don’t have to?'” they asked. You can’t stop once you start. You would have to continue on this show, but you don’t have to take other roles on other shows.”
Ron Howard knew what his parents were trying to tell him. He continues, “I think it was pretty clear at that point that I enjoyed it and I was good at it.”
He was supposed to be the main star and he was good at it.
In addition to his role on The Andy Griffith Show, Howard starred in the 1962 film The Music Man. It was a musical and it was quite a success.
He had a natural talent. He then starred in American Graffiti in 1973. Actors he later worked with again included Cindy Williams, Richard Dreyfuss, and Harrison Ford.

Ron Howard was cast in the lead role of Richie Cunningham in the 1974 television series Happy Days, developed by Garry Marshall. From 1974 to 1984, the show was broadcast on television and attracted viewers from all over the world.
Happy Days was so successful that it spawned several TV series, including Laverne & Shirley, starring Cindy Williams and Penny Marshall, Garry Marshall’s sister, and Mork & Mindy, starring Robin Williams as the witty Mork of Ork.
Ron Howard was Cheryl Alley’s best friend during their high school years before he received a Golden Globe nomination for his portrayal of a naive young man in Happy Days. They tied the knot in 1975.
