Ron Howard became famous for his portrayal of Opie on The Andy Griffith Show from 1960 to 1968, following his early entry into the entertainment industry.

Playing Griffith’s son, Howard enjoyed the support of his parents, who were also in the entertainment industry.

Ron remembers a conversation he had with his parents as a child. “Remember how we said, ‘You can do it if you want to, but you don’t have to?'” they asked. You can’t stop once you start. You would have to continue on this show, but you don’t have to take other roles on other shows.”

Ron Howard knew what his parents were trying to tell him. He continues, “I think it was pretty clear at that point that I enjoyed it and I was good at it.”

Ron Howard was cast in the lead role of Richie Cunningham in the 1974 television series Happy Days, developed by Garry Marshall. From 1974 to 1984, the show was broadcast on television and attracted viewers from all over the world.

Happy Days was so successful that it spawned several TV series, including Laverne & Shirley, starring Cindy Williams and Penny Marshall, Garry Marshall’s sister, and Mork & Mindy, starring Robin Williams as the witty Mork of Ork.
