Sally Field is one of the few Hollywood celebrities who managed to maintain a natural look without succumbing to the pressure of plastic surgery.
It’s unusual to come across a celebrity who doesn’t have any work to do these days, especially considering the pressure that famous women often experience. Being a woman in Hollywood is tough, but Sally Field has defied most established “rules,” even at age 76.
Sally Field gives good performances in movies like Forrest Gump and Steel Magnolias. Her best work, meanwhile, has less to do with the screen and more to do with how she personally navigates ageism in the workplace.
Born in 1946 in Pasadena, California, Sally Field first became known through television programs including Gidget and The Flying Nun.
The 76-year-old celebrity first rose to fame as a lawyer and actor before moving on to the big screen soon after leaving television.
Norma Rae, Mrs. Doubtfire, Smokey and the Bandit, and Forrest Gump are just some of the standout films she has appeared in.
The actress received the Screen Actors Guild Lifetime Achievement Award in February 2023 and graciously accepted it as she spoke about her distinguished and lengthy career.
During her career, Field has previously been nominated for two Tony Awards, two BAFTA Film Awards, three Primetime Emmy Awards, two Golden Globe Awards, two SAG Awards, including her most recent Lifetime Achievement Award, and two Golden Globe Awards.
Obor has a reputation as a talented and ageless activist. Her modest acceptance speech at the SAG Achievement Award served to outline her complicated acting career.
“I felt shy, guarded, and hidden behind the scenes. But I was never sure what I would say or do on stage. I would be surprised myself. She commented: “I wasn’t hoping for praise or attention, but it’s fantastic.
Acting for me has always been about capturing those rare, rare moments when I feel whole, complete, and, at times, dangerously alive. Finding a way there was always a problem.
With her natural gray hair and gorgeous black outfit, Field exuded grace and beauty.
They helped me open up and understand parts of myself that I wouldn’t have otherwise. I work all my life. She continued: “I don’t think I’ve gone over 60 years without feeling quietly pleased to call myself an actress.
As for her portrayal of the old, eccentric Doris Miller for NPR in 2016:
“I’m an old lady; 70 is ancient and I’m fine with that.” I have strength beyond my years; I earned the right to have them and owned them. And even though I don’t like my neck and a lot of other things, it’s okay.
Obor has already talked about natural aging in an interview. In an interview with Good Housekeeping in 2009, she talked about how she dealt with the pressure to complete projects for work:
“Oh, I wish this hadn’t happened to my neck,” I thought to myself as I watched myself on television. Plus, your eyes are bulging and your face is collapsing. Then I realized that several of the women I thought were so beautiful when they were younger had plastic surgery. Oh no, I’m thinking right now. Avoid it! And that would seem disrespectful to who they are right now.
Sally Field is a role model for all women, young and old. Her dedication and hard work are an inspiration and her attitude towards aging is refreshing. She was always true to herself and never succumbed to pressure to conform to society’s expectations. Sally Field showed that beauty and talent come in all shapes, sizes, and ages and that it is essential to embrace natural beauty and the aging process.
Field’s message is clear – it’s essential to be true to yourself and embrace your natural beauty.
