Bob Tischler has died at the age of 78.
His contribution to the revival of Saturday Night Live was well known.
On July 13, the television writer died at his home in Bodega Bay, California.
Zeke, his son, clearly stated that he died of pancreatic cancer.
As a member of the writing and production staff in the 1980s and 1981s, Bob helped revive Saturday Night Live after its decline.
Since its first broadcast on NBC in October 1975, the popular program has been on the air.
After five seasons under Lorne Michaels, the show collapsed under Jean Doumanian in the early 1980s.
As a reporter for the New York Times in 1981, Tony Schwartz argued that “the flinty irreverence of a year ago had given way to cheap shocks and worn-out formulas.”
During Saturday Night Live’s weakest season ever, in 1981, Dick Ebersol took over as creative director. Bob was employed by him as a supervising producer.
Michael O’Donoghue was the head writer for Saturday Night Live before Bob. He was fired for an inappropriate scene.
Bob eventually helped transform SNL when he took over the role for the next four seasons.
In 1985, Bob left the late-night television program.

For the next two years, Bob oversaw David Brenner’s Nightlife chat.
He has produced television programs such as “Empty Nest”, “Something So Right”, “The People Next Door” and “Boy Meets World”.
Bob’s sound work, including the albums he produced for The Blues Brothers and The National Lampoon Radio Hour, was equally well known.
In the 2002 book Live From New York: An Uncensored History of Saturday Night Live, Bob stated that he did not really consider himself a writer.
“I wrote and produced a lot of comedies, but I wasn’t in a union or anything,” he told Tom Shales and James Andrew.
