It’s crucial for everyone to have eating habits because they not only benefit our physical well-being but also improve our cognitive function. However, it’s important to remember that we should respect choices and avoid shaming those who may have dietary standards. This is especially true when it comes to children.
Reflecting on my childhood I remember that school meals didn’t always prioritize health. I can vividly recall tasteless dishes centered around rice and fried potatoes. However, things have changed significantly in the 17 years. Some schools, in Ontario, Canada have recently embraced initiatives promoting eating.
Unfortunately, it seems that in some cases these efforts have been taken far particularly when it comes to children’s meals. For example, there was an incident where a staff member confiscated a child’s lunch because they deemed it unhealthy.
When Eliana Daoust, the child’s mother, heard about this incident, from her child she expressed her dissatisfaction.
She made the decision to express her concerns, with the school accusing them of behaving disrespectfully towards the students. Although the school had set rules about what kind of food was allowed for students they insisted that they had never supported or directed their staff to take food based on how healthy it was perceived to be.
