The Hidalgo family moved from Peru to Provo, Utah because they liked it there and wanted to give their children more opportunities. The youth eagerly awaited the start of the new school year.
Three children and their mother decided to go to school on a regular Monday morning in August, not knowing that it would have tragic consequences.
A mother took a photo of her son and daughter as they walked down the street, holding hands and pulling their school bags. Little did she know it would be among their last pictures.
According to the young woman, all the witnesses were moved when they realized the severity of the accident.
Her greatest fear materialized right before her eyes. On their morning walk to Wasatch Elementary, things quickly spiraled out of control, and Mom was out of control.
Two children were hit by an out-of-control car that was passing the family.
A white SUV also damaged a gas line and hit Sabrina Pendleton’s home. She sprinted outside after being startled by the crash and explained that she heard a series of bangs before she felt the car crash into their house. Two toddlers lay on the road while others performed CPR as she sped down the street a short distance.
According to the young woman, everyone who watched the event experienced intense emotions because they saw how serious the situation was and realized that the wounds could be fatal. Pendleton continued by driving the car through the front yard. Everyone outside was afraid.
Police were investigating what caused 59-year-old Darren Albertson to lose control of the vehicle. He also died in the crash and no information was available on what happened.
As of late August, authorities were still trying to determine the exact date of Albertson’s death. According to Det, was it before or during the crash? Shad LeFevre of the Provo Police Department? They are questions they are unable to answer; must wait for the medical examiner’s results.
According to Provo Police Capt. Brian Taylor, the case will be taken seriously because it involved a fatal traffic accident. The impact of the grieving family on the town as a whole was devastating. Flowers and balloons for the children were left at the crash site by friends, family members, and strangers. One woman, Carolina Galindo, said life is so short. He wants them to understand that he supports them. They sincerely apologize and wish they could have done more to help the other person.
Provo Mayor Michelle Kaufusi met with the media after the disaster to express her condolences. She said there were no winners after such a terrible event.
Caleb Price of the City School District said trauma counseling will be available to students at the sibling’s school. He knew everyone was in complete shock and advised the students to come get help if they needed it.

People in the neighborhood started a GoFundMe page to help the family. Approximately $60,000 will be donated by the end of August 2022. A family friend also updated the family’s status.
