Simon Cowell Reunites Emotionally with The MerseyGirls from Britain’s Got Talent

In the colorful tapestry of Britain’s Got Talent, few acts resonate as deeply as The MerseyGirls’ riveting journey. Their story, one of friendship, resilience, and unyielding determination, unfolded in a way that captured the hearts of both the judges and the audience.

Consisting of Julie, Annie, Alice, Rebecca, and Poppy, The MerseyGirls shared a bond that extended beyond the stage. Their connection dates back to their early childhood, a testament to their enduring friendship that formed the foundation of their dance group. But it was Julia’s battle with scoliosis that added a poignant layer to their story.

Judge Alesha Dixon gave another performance that was moving and emotional, The Golden Buzzer. Julia said, “I thought this was the last time I would be able to dance,” but she was wrong! Julia’s story moved Simon Cowell so much that he personally paid for her surgery in the US so she could dance again! And thanks to the surgery, they were able to reunite emotionally on Britain’s Got Talent: The Champions.

Seeing Julia shine on stage is motivating. They danced to Alessia Cara’s ‘Scars to Your Beautiful’ and Julia’s backflips and flowing dances around the stage making it hard not to cry. Judge David Walliams noted how moving it was to watch, with Alesha Dixon declaring: “If I had another one, I’d press the golden buzzer again!” and Amanda Holden exclaimed, “You are a magical person!”

However, Simon was the one whose remarks were most anticipated. “It’s the power of one person and on top of that, it’s friendship and support… it’s everything,” he said, clearly overcome with emotion. Even though the Mersey Girls finished in the bottom seven of the competition, their story didn’t end there! The MerseyGirls and singer-songwriter Calum Scott returned to the Britain’s Got Talent stage together in 2020 for Britain’s Got Talent: Christmas Special.

After the Mersey Girls performed another amazing dance routine which culminated in Julia standing on a throne with the other girls standing around her, Calum sang his song ‘You Are The Reason’.

After their stint on Britain’s Got Talent, the girls continued to dance together, teach budding young dancers, and work on their own projects. In addition to her acting career, Julia voiced Mary-Jane Watson in the short film “Spider-Gwen” and played Kayden Ferguson in four episodes of the TV series “Tin Star”. Alice played the role of Jill in a pantomime production of Jack and the Beanstalk.

But their days on Britain’s Got Talent are far from over! The MerseyGirls are set to take part in America’s Got Talent: Fantasy League, where judges will select 40 acts from across the franchise to compete in what promises to be an incredible season.
