Millions of people will watch the stunning ensembles on May 6 at the 2024 Met Gala, dubbed “fashion’s biggest night.”
This year’s Met Gala honors Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion, a show that honors the “natural world” and historical fashion. The Garden of Time, a 1962 short novel by J.G. Ballard, serves as another source of inspiration for The Gala’s dress code.
There are many ways to understand the Garden of Time. However, there is general agreement that Ballard’s short story serves as a metaphor for the value of historical preservation and the effect of time on the past.
Depending on the point of view, the narrative depiction of the botanical garden with flowers made of crystals can be read both literally and symbolically. We were also curious to see how some of Disney’s most famous princesses would fare at tonight’s ball, although many ensembles are expected to feature flowers tonight.
