“I decided to enter,” Raelin told Kidspot.
“I live about 15 minutes from the hospital but I had to drop my daughter off at her godmother’s which added about five minutes.
Unfortunately, Raelin was in excruciating pain. She had enough and called 911 to speak to a dispatcher. Raelin gave the phone to Ean because she was in so much pain that she was unable to clearly communicate with the 911 operator. But he was also busy trying to get the mother of his child to the hospital.
“He was driving the wrong way in the bus lane because there was traffic,” she said.
“There were no buses coming, so he got into the bus lane to get to the hospital faster.”
Time was running out for Raelin.
“I felt the baby in the birth canal and knew it was time,” she said. “I pulled down my pants and felt his head with my fingers. I pushed him and he slipped out. That’s when I knew it was still in this bag.”
Raelin gave birth to her son, Ean Jr. or EJ in the car at 11:28 a.m. after the couple left their house at 11:14 a.m. and dropped off their daughter at 11:22 a.m.
“I knew he probably wouldn’t be able to breathe on his own this early and that he was safe there, so I didn’t disturb him,” Raelin explains. “At first the baby didn’t move – then I rubbed his face with my finger and he pulled his arms and legs up to cover his face and I knew he was fine.”
In the middle of what should have been an ordinary car ride, the family was treated to an extraordinary birth, a moment to be remembered and remembered for a lifetime.
