Texas Man Charged with Murder After Roommate Burned Alive in RV Fire
A Texas man has been charged with murder following the death of his roommate, who was burned alive in an RV fire in Amarillo.
James (Jaime) Sosa, 46, was found dead on October 27 after firefighters extinguished the early-morning blaze, KVII reported. Court documents indicate that Sosa was alive when the fire began, as evidenced by soot in his trachea and airways.
Authorities have charged Sosa’s roommate, 46-year-old Luis Angel Rico, with murder. Investigators noted that Rico had soot on his hands, smelled of gasoline, and traces of an accelerant were found on his clothing and shoes. Rico initially denied involvement, claiming he had been in a nearby trailer from 1:00 to 2:30 a.m. while Sosa was watching TV, and returned around 5:00 a.m. after hearing sirens.
Rico is currently held without bond at the Potter County Jail as the investigation continues.
Officials are emphasizing evidence of accelerant use and Rico’s suspicious behavior as they work to reconstruct the events leading to Sosa’s death, seeking accountability in this tragic incident.
