In spite of this, Turia was not only able to survive the disaster without dying, but also to improve the quality of her life. The 100-kilometer race, which Racing The Planet was hosting, had forty runners on that particular September day. When the nearby grass and shrubs caught fire, the competitors could only make it approximately a quarter of the way.
One of the unfortunate athletes who unfortunately perished in the fire was Turia. As the temperature increased, the young woman eventually made the decision to push herself by going barefoot into the flames. On 65 percent of her body, she had third-degree burns.
Turia competed for the Miss Australia crown and was a successful model before to the disaster. She competed and made it to the finals. Her lover was Michael, a classmate from her senior year of high school.
The girl claimed that she had achieved all of her personal goals. But in a split second, everything changed. During that terrifying incident in the hospital, she recalled asking herself why the physicians were able to save her life despite the overwhelming odds against them.
Turia ended up staying in hospitals for a total of 864 days. She underwent more than 200 operations, one of which involved reconstructing her nearly completely burned nose. Five fingers had to be amputated as a result. Turia and Michael’s relationship remained solid despite everything that was occurring. He gave his father a diamond ring and promised, “If she survives, I will marry her,” despite the fact that the young woman needed emergency medical attention. In response, he said, “Well done, man.”
While his loved one was in the hospital, Michael not only fed, dressed, and assisted them in learning to walk, but he also quit his job to focus solely on their care. In the Maldives in 2015, Michael Hoskins proposed to his future bride by wearing the engagement ring she had been sporting for the previous four years. In December 2017, the couple welcomed Hakawai into the world, creating their family of three.
As she continues to inspire others with her courage and resilience, Turia is a shining example of the power of the human spirit. Her story serves as a reminder that even in the darkest moments, there is always hope for a brighter future.
