The teenager wades into the ocean to cool down and suddenly notices his legs covered in blood.

Please note that we are republishing this story that first appeared in August 2017.

It all started when a young man named Sam Kanizay decided to cool off with a refreshing swim in the bay.

Sam Kanizay claims he was attacked by sea lice while on Dendy Street beach in Brighton.

After “leaving a trail of blood” on his way home, his dad Jarrod and sister Gabby, 14, helped clean up the blood by putting him in the shower.

The blood continued to flow, seeping from the small pores and not stopping. He was taken by ambulance to the emergency room at Sandringham Hospital, where he was given painkillers and antibiotics while blood was drawn.

He was taken to Dandenong Hospital early Sunday morning for further testing.

On Sunday afternoon, blood was still dripping from his legs, but the doctors had no idea.

It could have been sea lice, the nurse said, “but it was just a guess.”

After Nick Murray stood in Sandringham Bay for ten minutes, he and his 13-year-old son Will noticed blood on his legs and assumed it was sea lice.

Professor Michael Keough, a marine biologist at the University of Melbourne, suggested this could be the case: “They’re scavengers that clean up dead fish and feed on living tissue. Because they’re often not much more than a centimeter long.” they tend to produce relatively small bites, more closely resembling the appearance of pin-sized marks.

They just need food, I repeat. More of them might come in and start biting, especially if he’s been standing there for a while. Simply let yourself be drawn to a small piece of blood. In addition, if he was standing in the water while it was cold, he could not notice a few small bites, the spokesman continued.

Sam’s morning swim partner, Doina Canta, speculated that a sting could be the cause of Sam’s injury after learning that a member of her Icebergs swim group had been seriously stabbed and bled to death about six months earlier.

“It was a bit strange what happened. Sam said on Sunday: “I’m not sure what to make of it.

Jarrod Kanizay forewarned that “something ate Sam’s legs” in an email. You may want to repost this to warn [Brighton] to freeze the Bergers or other running clubs who have frozen their feet in Brighton not to stand still in it for too long.

Of his time at Sandringham Hospital, Jarrod commented: “We had an emergency department full of everyone who worked there, really excited. They were all on Google afterward, making theories about what had happened. They had basically ten different hypotheses, but nothing came of it. didn’t happen.” yet.

On Sunday night, Jarrod added, he thought about throwing a bloody piece of meat into the bay “to see if we can catch these things.”

Ultimately, the Dendy Street Beach incident remains one of those strange mysteries of nature that defies easy explanation. Sam Kanizay’s unique encounter with mysterious creatures is a reminder of the vastness of our natural world and the many mysteries that remain hidden within it. As humans continue to explore and interact with nature, such encounters will undoubtedly continue to capture our curiosity and remind us of the many wonders yet to be discovered.
