It began as one of those routine classroom questions—simple, harmless, and designed to get students thinking. The kind teachers ask without a second thought, assuming the answers will be predictable. No one in the room had any idea that one student’s response was about to take the lesson completely off track.
During the exercise, the teacher asked her class to name words that end in “-tor” and eat other things. The challenge sounded easy, and eager hands shot into the air.
One student was called on first. “Alligator,” he said proudly. The teacher smiled, clearly pleased, and complimented him on choosing such a strong example.
