Tragedy struck when two-year-old Felicity was found unconscious and badly injured after being attacked by a group of puppies at her family’s home.
Little Felicity, who was just 2 years old, was found unconscious and may have lost an eye after being attacked by a gang of puppies from her kennel. Felicity’s family, along with the family’s four 12-week-old puppies, were preparing for a housewarming party and double birthday celebration earlier this month when the unfortunate incident occurred.
Sierra According to the child’s mother, Michele, they kept the puppies for three weeks and never gave them any reason to prevent their children from playing with them. Michele left her husband to look after the four children while she went to the bathroom.
She went outside and told her oldest daughter to inform her father to watch the children while she went to a nearby Bakersfield store for gifts for the rally. She then called her husband to let him know she would be gone for about three hours.
Explaining the GoFundMe page, Michele said she asked her husband if Felicity was with the kids, to which he replied, “No,” and that it looked like she was watching everyone inside.
Then Michele contacted Sam, her daughter. She heard Sam inform her father that Felicity was bleeding and had to be sent to the hospital, though the connection had been cut due to poor service.
Sierra said that when she turned the car around, her husband waved for them to follow him as their van drove down the road. Felicity was missing an eye, he told her husband when she contacted him, and he discovered her sleeping under a peach tree and called 911.
The family discovered on the way to the hospital that Felicity could only have suffered such damage in the garden if there were puppies.
In a subsequent update, Sierra said the four puppies ate Felicity’s ear and severely disfigured her face, neck, and upper torso. Felicity, a young patient who underwent three hours of plastic surgery, is recovering well but may require other methods in the future.
Sierra Michele is now optimistic that her family’s tragic story will raise awareness of the risks posed by the single-sibling syndrome. This is a serious behavioral disorder in which young puppies become overly attached, which can lead to terror when they encounter new situations unsupervised.
The goal of the campaign, according to the site, was to raise awareness of this potentially deadly problem. The family wants to make sure their experience never happens to anyone else.
Every member of the family, including the parents, has accepted full responsibility for what happened and steps have already been taken to prevent similar incidents in the future. So far, more than $10,000 has been raised on the family’s GoFundMe page to cover Felicity’s medical expenses.
The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of understanding and addressing the potential risks associated with pet ownership, especially when introducing multiple puppies into a household at the same time. Felicity’s family hopes to share their heartbreaking experience to educate others and prevent similar incidents in the future while providing the necessary support for Felicity’s recovery and ongoing medical needs.
