Tragic Death of 8-Year-Old Who Fled Domestic Violence by Jumping from Car and Struck by Another Vehicle

In central California, a heart-wrenching event occurred when an eight-year-old child lost her life while trying to escape a domestic violence episode. The California Highway Patrol reported that the tragic incident happened in Fresno, where the little girl jumped out of her mother’s SUV and started walking on a busy street at around 10 p.m. on Friday.

The mother was driving the vehicle with her two children, aged eight and two when she was subjected to domestic abuse by the male passenger identified as Juan Del Toro, aged 51.

As a result, the mother pulled over to the right shoulder, fearing for her safety, and the eight-year-old saw an opportunity to escape. Unfortunately, the thick fog that blanketed the region that night made it difficult to see on the road. The child was hit by a car driven by an 82-year-old man with no lights on, and the impact proved fatal.

Del Toro was arrested for domestic abuse, while the 22-year-old mother was detained and later released for drunk driving. California Highway Patrol Sgt. Mike Salas described the incident as a complete disaster, involving domestic violence, drunk driving, and the loss of an innocent eight-year-old child.

The senior driver who struck the child came to a halt and is assisting the authorities, but the tragedy remains incomprehensible. It is difficult to fathom how the little girl must have felt, terrified and desperate to escape the dangerous situation, only to find herself on an even more hazardous road.

The thought of her and countless other children who are at risk despite being under the care of those who should keep them safe is heartbreaking. This incident underscores the crucial need to promote awareness and implement measures to prevent domestic violence and safeguard the well-being of children in our communities.
