Tragic Discovery in Cyril, Oklahoma: Missing 4-Year-Old Athena Brownfield’s Remains Found

The community has been left shocked and saddened by this tragic incident, and our condolences go out to Athena’s family during this difficult time. It serves as a stark reminder of the significance of being vigilant about the well-being of children and reporting any concerns to the appropriate authorities. Our hope is that justice will be served and that Athena’s memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved her.

Recently, a sorrowful revelation emerged in Cyril, Oklahoma, when the remains of a 4-year-old girl who had been missing for a few weeks were found. On January 26, the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation verified that the discovered remains belonged to Athena Brownfield. In the course of the investigation, two guardians, Ivon, and Alysa Adams, were already taken into custody earlier in the month in relation to the case.

The search for Athena Brownfield started on January 10 when a mail carrier discovered the girl’s 5-year-old sister playing alone on the street. On January 16, the OSBI changed the search to a “recovery operation.” Alysia Adams, 31, and her husband Ivon Adams, 36, the babysitters of the two sisters, have been arrested in relation to Athena’s death. On Thursday, January 12, Ivon was charged with first-degree murder and child neglect, while Alysia has been charged with child abuse and neglect.

This distressing incident has had a profound impact on the community, leaving them saddened. We offer our sincere sympathies to Athena’s family during this challenging period. It highlights the importance of guaranteeing children’s well-being and reporting any potential cases to the authorities. We have faith in the justice system’s ability to deliver a fair and just outcome. Athena’s memory will continue to be cherished and remembered by those who had the privilege of knowing and loving her.

According to court records, Alysia Adams, who is reportedly a relative of the two young girls, was granted custody of the children by their biological mother, Jasmin Brownfield, around two years ago. However, Alysia’s wife claimed in an affidavit obtained by The Oklahoman that Alysia said her husband had hit the four-year-old Athena at midnight while holding her by the arms. The young child was unresponsive, and her eyes were barely open, according to the 31-year-old’s account to the police. Athena was then laid on the ground and punched in the chest at least three more times by Ivon, according to Alysia’s statement. After the alleged assault, Ivon took Athena from their home in Cyril, Oklahoma, located at 225 West Nebraska Avenue, and later informed Alysia that he had buried the child near the fence of their previous home in Rush Springs, Oklahoma, according to OSBI Special Agent Brenna Alvarez.

Previously, the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation stated that the sister of Athena, who was discovered alone by a mailman, has been placed in protective care. It was also revealed that the alleged abuse of Athena occurred at the Adams’ residence. According to Fox News’ report, Alysia Adams reported the abuse to a state agency, which resulted in the arrest of both Ivon and Alysia Adams. This tragic and heartbreaking incident has left the community in disbelief. It is crucial to prioritize the safety of children and immediately report any suspected abuse or neglect to the authorities. We hope that the justice system will provide a just resolution to this case, and Athena’s memory will always remain cherished in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
