Shaquil Barrett, a famous linebacker who plays for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, has faced a devastating tragedy as his two-year-old daughter, Arrayah Barrett, drowned in their family swimming pool in Tampa Bay on Sunday, April 30th, 2023. The incident took place at around 9:30 a.m. and as soon as the emergency call was received that an infant had fallen into the pool, police officers were dispatched immediately to the NFL player’s residence. Despite being hurriedly taken to a nearby hospital, Arrayah Barrett was declared dead by the authorities.
Although the Tampa Police Department’s statement received by ESPN did not disclose any specifics about the incident, the authorities have stated that it was purely accidental and that the investigation is still ongoing. The Buccaneers have issued a statement on social media offering their condolences to Shaquil Barrett and his family in light of the heartbreaking news.
“Today’s tragic news is devastating for everyone in the Buccaneers family. We extend our thoughts and prayers to Shaq, Jordanna, and the entire Barrett family during this unimaginably difficult time,” the statement read.
Shaquil Barrett has four children, with Arrayah Bennett being the youngest. He had recently celebrated her second birthday, sharing a photo on Instagram and writing, “Happy 2nd bday to my cutie girl. So sweet and cute. You made our family complete. I love you, baby girl.” In a similar post last year, when she turned one, he described her as his “cute girl” and thanked her for always “putting a smile on my face.”

It’s a reminder to all parents and guardians to take extra care and precautions when it comes to pool safety, especially around young children. We hope that the family can find comfort and strength in the love and support of their community during this unimaginable tragedy.
On the night of April 30th, retired quarterback Tom Brady took to Instagram to extend his condolences to the Barrett family, writing, “The Bradys love you.” Shaquil Barrett, currently playing for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, is a well-known figure in the NFL, having won two Super Bowls and been selected for two Pro Bowls. He previously played for the Denver Broncos before joining the Buccaneers in his fifth season.
