A TV personality chastised Robert De Niro for having a child at the age of 79 when he convinced him to get a vasectomy.
As previously reported, the Taxi Driver star opened up about her newest family member in an interview with ET Canada to promote her new film About My Father.
The 79-year-old casually mentioned his status as a new father while discussing his next film.
De Niro abruptly cut off a reporter when asked about his six children and replied, “Seven. I just had a baby.
The actor declined to provide any further information about his new addition, but a spokesperson assured that what he said was accurate.
Some people, most notably Channel 9 presenter Shelly Horton, appear to be somewhat taken aback that the 79-year-old has had a baby.
In an article for 9Honey, the presenter criticized the actor for having a child at his age, claiming that he would surely die before the child reached adulthood.
Horton wrote, “It is irresponsible to have children at this age, especially when you consider that the child will undoubtedly grow up without a father for most of his life.”
“While some may argue that women should not give up their desire to have children because their partner is older, they must consider the long-term implications of this decision,” she said.
Parents may have health problems as they age, making it difficult for them to provide their children with the care and attention they need.
Horton expressed her concern about the child’s mother becoming a single parent. While De Niro will likely be able to support the family financially, his death may have a negative emotional impact.
The presenter then gave advice to the venerable actor, writing: “I have an idea for a gift for Father’s Day – a vasectomy.”
De Niro revealed the infant’s name and his partner’s name to CBS Mornings host Gayle King after revealing the birth of his child.
