Two years later, in May 2014, an unlikely trio—students Tella Osler and Beau Doherty, with diving officer Siobhan Gray—discovered the camera twelve meters underwater near Aguilar Point. Marine ecologist Professor Isabelle M. Côté examined the find, and to everyone’s surprise, the camera’s 8GB Lexar memory card remained intact and fully accessible.

When Professor Côté shared the images online to find their owner, fate intervened—a local coast guard officer recognized Burgoyne, the very man he had helped rescue during the sinking.
