Owner Hurley, sister of Stacie Rae English. She was so upset by what happened that day that she wrote about the experience on Facebook. What she wrote was the following:
“My brother used to take his pit bull lab mix, Hurley, for a walk in our neighborhood around ten o’clock in the evening. He takes him for a walk at this hour so he can let him off the leash and indulge in his favorite activity, which is sniffing all the different smells. Hurley, she heard the child sob, and ran that way before my brother could answer.”
Hurley took the copper-headed snake from the little child and threw it about him; my brother followed closely behind and later found out that the snake had been killed. My brother rushed to his mother’s car and drove off, so he could not learn anything about the little child. Highland Village Police then responded to my brother’s animal control call and came to look at the incident (we believe he was bitten since they left so early).
Stacie Rae continues:
“To see if Hurley had been bitten, they asked for an examination. My brother was shocked to see that he was bleeding, his neck was swollen and he was foaming at the mouth. They found two bite marks on his upper lip.” Shelby brought Hurley to Denton Animal Emergency Hospital, where doctors monitored his ability to clot overnight.” Hurley spent the night there.”
Hurley and Shelby came home this morning. Thank goodness Hurley is doing much better this morning, but his swollen face and neck still seem to bother him.” according to Stacie Ray.
Wow, what a dangerous situation! Hurley put on an outstanding performance!
Not to mention, the sister writes:
“Once it was discovered that the little one had discovered the copperhead nest, Hurley definitely stopped the baby from biting, or at least from being bitten more than once. We are working to identify the little baby and make sure it is safe. Here is the brave pit bull. I would like to share his story with those who disparage his breed.”
