The first model with Down syndrome
Sofia Jiaru, a 24-year-old native of Puerto Rico, happens to have Down syndrome. Even as a child, she dreamed of being an entrepreneur and a model. People with Down syndrome were not particularly praised for their beauty in the past. Sophia made her runway debut for designer Marisa Santiago at New York Fashion Week in 2020, her first job as a model. Her modeling career has been growing in popularity ever since. She first revealed that she signed up as the first Victoria’s Secret model with Down syndrome this February. She shared a post about it on her Instagram page. “I worked for it, one day I dreamed about it and now it’s a reality.
