In a world where opinions and perceptions vary greatly, there is a deep truth that often goes unnoticed – what one person perceives as ugliness, another may see as beauty. This unique perspective is illustrated in the heartwarming story of Francisca Franken and her beloved cat Bean.
It all started when Francisca Franken stumbled across Bean’s photo on her local shelter’s website. Her first reaction to the image was instant affection, but it was Bean’s story that really captured her heart. You see, Bean lived in the shelter for almost a year, patiently waiting for someone to recognize her worth. Yet during that time, many passed her by and dismissed her as “grumpy” or even “ugly”.
Franken, however, did not have that impression of Bean.

And the thought of others doing it saddened her. So she took Bean inside. Franken’s previous cat Joker left a void that was filled by Bean.
Franken’s cat, Joker, lives with his parents. Joker lives outside, so she felt guilty taking him into the small apartment when she left her parents’ house.
She later moved to a bigger apartment so she could get a cat.
I didn’t want to get it right away because getting it always requires commitment. That is, until I stumbled across Bean’s photo one evening while browsing my neighborhood shelter’s website,” stated Franken.
“The moment I saw her in the photo, I fell in love. Because I had never seen a cat like this before, the photos were hilarious, so I laughed at first.
In an effort to adopt Bean, Franken immediately sent all of her information to the shelter.
Franken was determined to give Bean a permanent home despite the fact that the shelter referred to her as a “wild” and that the exotic shorthair had some health issues.
To make sure Bean was the cat she wanted to adopt, the shelter staff called her.

They were somewhat taken aback by the fact that no one else had offered to take her.
The caller freaked out that I clicked the wrong button by mistake or that I wasn’t interested in her otherwise. When I realized that Bean had no one to love her, I started to cry, so I immediately scheduled a meeting with them for January 8th.
Franken claimed she dressed up to the nines in an attempt to win over shelter workers and win their approval as Bean’s ideal adoptive parents.
When Franken finally met Bean in person, she burst into tears.
Bean exceeded Franken’s expectations with her cuteness. It was love at first sight.
She ended up spending a few hours chatting with Bean.
Given how much she loved the little short-legged cat, the shelter staff were more than happy to take Bean home.
Besides, Bean had the same attraction to Franken as she did to her.
When she was around Franken, she was quite friendly and started up front.
Bean was a very inquisitive cat and started exploring Franken’s apartment as soon as she arrived.
She shared a bed with Franken that night.

She didn’t leave me for a moment. She was afraid that if she wasn’t all cuddly and who knows what else I’d take her back to the shelter, but she soon learned that she could just be herself and started to accept her weird nature more. I realized she was home at that point, Franken said.
According to Franken, adopting Bean was “the best thing that ever happened to me.”
This heartwarming story serves as a reminder that true beauty lies not only in looks, but also in the love and compassion we show for each other, especially those who may be considered “different” by society’s standards. It’s a story that encourages us to see the beauty in uniqueness and the potential for love and connection in the unlikeliest of places.
