Sometimes the smallest errands go spectacularly wrong.
You think your instructions are foolproof, but one curious mind—or one misplaced burst of confidence—can turn a simple task into a full-blown circus. That’s exactly what happened the day a handyman showed up at Laura’s apartment.
Laura’s dishwasher had quit on her, so she arranged for a repairman to stop by while she was at work. She left a note with very precise instructions:
“Key under the mat. Fix the dishwasher. Leave the bill on the counter and I’ll mail the payment. Don’t worry about my bulldog, Bob—he won’t bother you. But whatever you do, do NOT talk to the parrot. Seriously. Don’t say a single word to him.”
The handyman let himself in and immediately spotted Bob, a hulking bulldog with a face like a bouncer who’d seen too much. Still, the dog barely moved, just watched him with mild interest as he got to work.

The parrot, on the other hand, launched into a verbal assault the moment he opened his toolbox. It squawked, mocked, and hurled insults with the confidence of a seasoned stand-up comic. The longer it went on, the harder it was for him to ignore.
Finally, after enduring a full barrage of feathered trash-talk, he snapped.
“Oh, shut up, you obnoxious little menace!” he barked.
Without missing a beat, the parrot screeched back:
“Alright, Bob—get him!”
What happened next could only be described as a very fast and very painful lesson in following directions.
Conclusion
Even the easiest jobs can get wildly out of hand when a clear warning is ignored. In this case, a sharp-tongued parrot and a very loyal bulldog proved that sometimes the wisest move is simply to listen—unless you enjoy unexpected chaos and a bruised ego.
