In the quiet corridors of Brighton General Hospital in the United Kingdom, a baby boy was born who would soon become the center of attention not only for his loving family but for almost everyone who crossed his path. This little bundle of joy, named Junior Cox-Noon, entered the world with hair that seemed almost unimaginable for a newborn.
Weighing in at a robust 10 pounds, Junior’s birth was accompanied by a spectacle that even experienced medical staff found remarkable. Word of this furry wonder spread quickly, and before long Junior was affectionately nicknamed “Baby Bear” because of his incredibly thick and luscious hair.
Chelsea Noon, Junior’s mother, told the Daily Mail that her son “came out with a lot of hair”. It wasn’t until he took his first bath that I realized how much. He didn’t lose any of it, in fact, it grew. All the midwives and health visitors said it was falling out because newborn hair usually falls out when they rub their head against the back of the cot.
The 32-year-old mother of three claimed her weekly trips to the supermarket had gone from 40 minutes to nearly two hours as a result of people stopping her to ask questions.
“They all do a double take and say, ‘Oh my god, look at that baby’s hair’ and they have to touch it when I take it with me to Asda for the weekly shop,” Noon said. He doesn’t seem to mind and has a smile on his face.
According to Noon, Junior’s hair would take too long to dry naturally, so he has to blow dry it. She stated that she has no plans to cut her child’s hair.
People often ask me if I’m going to cut it, but Noon replied, “It’s too weird, so I’ll leave it at that.”
Noon’s other two children, Preston, 4, and Mitchell, 6, didn’t have as much hair when they were born as Junior. Noon claimed she suffered severe heartburn while carrying Junior.
A 2007 Johns Hopkins University study found a link between fetal hair growth and heartburn during pregnancy. This may be because estrogen, a hormone that can affect hair growth, causes heartburn when levels are high.
Noon claims that Mitchell and Preston adore their new younger sibling.
The Daily Mirror quoted Noon as saying, “His brothers really love him; my youngest always comes up to Junior and says, “I want to pinch his huge cheeks.” We call him “Baby Bear” because he looks like a little teddy bear, but when he’s angry, he looks like a young gremlin.
Noon continued by saying that she does not plan to have any more children.
She recalled: “The pregnancy was fine, but the birth was horrible. It was particularly traumatic because “his head got stuck, so they had to send an ambulance… and I lost a liter of blood.
“Of course when they weighed him, they found him to be 10 pounds, which is probably why.
He now weighs around 13 1/2 pounds. He gained a little weight instead of losing weight like most people, Noon continued. But that’s right, Junior, I won’t have any more children, even if they would definitely weigh 12 kilos.
While Junior’s arrival has brought joy and fascination to his family and the many people who have met him, Chelsea Noon has made it clear that she has no plans to expand her family any further.
The story of Junior Cox-Noon and his extraordinary head of hair serves as a wonderful reminder of the unexpected and wonderful surprises that can come with the arrival of a new baby. Junior’s unique appearance not only captured the hearts of his family but also brought smiles and wonder to countless strangers, turning every trip into an unforgettable and magical experience.
