John and Charlotte Henderson have achieved something many people can only dream of – becoming the world’s oldest married couple.
The distinction that the Austin, Texas couple has is something that many will strive to achieve, but few will actually succeed.
At the age of 211, John Henderson (106) and Charlotte Henderson (105) have just broken the Guinness World Records record for the oldest married couple.
In addition, they will celebrate 80 years of marriage on December 15.
They met in class in 1934, while both students at the University of Texas, and instantly fell in love. They married in December 1939 and spent their honeymoon in a hotel room that cost them only $7.
So what is the key to the couple’s record-breaking marriage and span of more than 100 years?
“Dying appropriately.” In 2017, John spoke to USA Today. “We never take it too far. Eat sensibly. Get good rest. Don’t drink too much. Avoid overeating. along with frequent exercise.”
John is the oldest living former UT football player and half of the oldest married couple. The couple has also attended at least one UT football game every season for the past 84 years.
“When John retired, we had a great time. We took a lot of trips,”. said Charlotte. We just keep ourselves busy all the time, which definitely helps me.
The couple now maintains an active lifestyle at Longhorn Village, a senior living facility for UT staff and alumni.
The couple received an outpouring of congratulations and best wishes for their incredible achievement, with people from all over the world sending them love and admiration.
Cheers and we wish the happy couple many more wedding anniversaries!
