The price of fame often comes with its own set of challenges and complexities. For many celebrities, star appeal, the admiration of millions, and the glitz of Hollywood can be a double-edged sword.
Yasmine Bleeth’s journey through the highs and lows of fame exemplifies this paradox.
In the nineties, Yasmine Bleeth was a major celebrity. Her portrayal of Caroline Holden in Baywatch, one of the most-watched television shows of all time, helped her rise to fame.
In 1968, Bleeth was born in New York, where her mother was a model and her father ran his own company. At the age of ten months, Bleeth made his television debut in a commercial for Johnson & Johnson’s No More Tears baby shampoo.
Famous fashion photographer Francesco Scavullo first recognized Bleeth’s stunning beauty when she was just six years old.
Bleeth and her mother Carina, whom he considered “one of the most beautiful women in the world”, captivated him. Their images were featured in his famous book Scavullo Women.
Everyone in Bleeth’s immediate circle understood that she would one day become a big celebrity. After appearing in popular commercials as a young child, she saw television as the next natural progression.
Bleeth starred in the daytime series Ryan’s Hope and the film Hey Babe! before her big role in Baywatch.
But Bleeth’s mother died aged 47 from inflammatory breast cancer, diagnosed a few months after the show was canceled.
Although severely affected by her mother’s demise, Bleeth turned down several film offers at the time. At that time, she lived alone at home, watched cooking shows, and sometimes went for walks.
Bleeth made a cameo appearance in an episode of the fourth season of Baywatch in the 1990s, but her performance was so strong that the offer to become a regular was made to her almost immediately. She appeared on the show for four seasons.
In 1995, she was included in People magazine’s “50 Most Beautiful People” list.
Bleeth played the seductive Inspector Caitlin Cross in the TV series Nash Bridges from 1998 to 2000. But at the time she was going through a difficult time in her personal life.
She was specifically engaged to actor Richard Griec but turned to drugs as a coping mechanism after their breakup. In addition, she developed a shopping obsession.
“I used to spend hours doing my face, putting on sunscreen, and plucking my eyebrows. But I primarily shopped online. I ordered from Bluefly, Saks Fifth Avenue, or Neiman Marcus.
It was the biggest joke ever – despite buying all these beautiful things, I never left the house. I would literally spend $5,000 to $10,000 in a single night shopping on the internet, forget the money I spent on drugs! It really got me. Shopping was a quick fix,” she said in a 2003 interview with Glamor magazine.
She would spend all her time alone and lose contact with her friends. She tried to stay sober while filming, but it was clear that something was not quite right.
“I had blood on my nose a few times on set, but the make-up artist would give me a tissue and I’d clean it without saying a word. If I felt congested in the morning, I’d go for a steam bath.” And my publicist would tell people I have sinus problems, which I do if I sniffle,” the woman noted.
Her addiction took a toll on her both mentally and physically. It wasn’t the same person. The former Baywatch star has lost a lot of weight and developed a huge head.
She later spoke about that period of her life and said she could die of a nasal infection. “The doctor put me on antibiotics and said, ‘A few more months with this infection and it could get into your brain and kill you,'” she recalled.
Bleeth checked herself into a treatment facility after collapsing on set and being jailed for possession of cocaine. She realized that if she wanted to survive, she had to make a change.
There she met Paul Cerrito, the love of her life and her future husband.
The former actress told Glamor Magazine: “They say you shouldn’t get into a relationship in your first year of sobriety – especially with someone on the program, but Paul and I fell in love instantly.”
She and Paul are still married, though they avoid the limelight.
Bleeth, 54, retired from acting in 2003. Everyone agrees she doesn’t look like her older self after she was seen walking her dogs last year. She lives a peaceful life and has gained weight.

well life happens!
Her struggles are real, and I feel for her. It’s tough going at it alone, at least that’s what she felt. But happy that she did find happiness with her husband, and even happier that he still stands beside her. She is broken, and it will take time, lots of time. Bleeth, I do you can find your happy place and hopefully you can kick this ugliness in the butt !! – never mind on the weight for now, that can be dealt with later on. Focus on yourself and self care first…Take car my friend… Hugs
