A touching tribute at a kindergarten graduation ceremony brought tears to the eyes of everyone in attendance, and at the center of it all was a remarkable 6-year-old boy named Jaxon Carter.
Jaxon’s heartfelt speech was dedicated to his “beautiful mom,” a phrase that resonated deeply with the audience. This touching moment was made all the more poignant by the tragic story that brought Jaxon here. The previous July, Jaxon’s mother, Taryn Marie Gainey, had tragically lost her life in an apartment fire. The loss was devastating for Jaxon and his family.
Just a few weeks later, Jaxon had to start Kindergarten at a new school, New Dawn Academy, which made dealing with such a loss even more difficult.
Justin Carter, his father, explained to “Good Morning America” how the school eventually became a ray of hope for the family.
“I had to find a school for him at the last minute and it just happened to be a great fit for him,” Carter noted.
The school itself saved my life.
As the school year drew to a close, Jaxon’s instructor noticed something special about him and asked if he would like to give his graduation speech.
No one expected that this “speech” would turn into a moving farewell speech.
Together, Jaxon and his grandmother prepared for the big event by writing his speech.
The fact that his father had not been informed of its contents added to the poignancy of the situation.
Carter said, “His teacher asked him if he could give a little speech.”
The short speech expanded into a long farewell speech.
Jaxon opened by saying, “When I entered Kindergarten at New Dawn Academy in August 2022, I was a small five-year-old child who had lost his beautiful mother a month earlier,” with confidence and grace beyond his years.
He took a moment to recover before pausing.
Describing the academic and life lessons he learned, he said, “My year at kindergarten helped me become braver, smarter, kind-hearted and grateful.”
Jaxon was also grateful to his instructor, who he praised for having a “big heart.”
He cherished his memory of her comforting words: “She told me it would be okay when I was sad.”
You are the best dad ever and I love you so much, he said, expressing his love and gratitude to his grandparents and father.
His speech culminated in a heartfelt dedication. “I dedicate my speech, my good grades, all my honors in school and my kindergarten graduation to my beautiful mom, who I will always love and miss very much,” Jaxon added.
“I’m sure he will stay in my heart forever.
An emotional Justin Carter described himself as “shocked and speechless” after watching his son’s touching tribute.
He noted, “You could tell he meant every word he said. The expressions, the words, everything.”

Koch emphasized Jaxon’s ability to rise to any challenge, whether it was spelling, learning to read, or mastering the art of writing his own name.
