Kindergarten graduation speech that touched the heart: Six-year-old Jaxon Carter’s tribute to his late mother
It was a heartwarming and emotional moment that didn’t leave a dry eye in the room. The star of this touching tribute was none other than a 6-year-old boy named Jaxon Carter. Jaxon stood tall in front of his fellow graduates, faculty and families and delivered a speech that resonated deeply with all in attendance.

Tragedy struck Jaxon’s life when his mother, Taryn Marie Gainey, tragically died in an apartment fire in July. To compound his problems, Jaxon had to start kindergarten at a new school, New Dawn Academy, a few weeks later.
His father, Justin Carter, shared with “Good Morning America” ​​how the school became a beacon of hope for them.
“I had to find a school for him at the last minute and it just happened to be a great fit for him,” Carter said.
“The school itself was a lifesaver.
As the school year drew to a close, Jaxon’s teacher saw something special in him and asked if he would like to give his graduation speech.
Little did anyone know that this “little speech” would turn into a heartfelt valedictory speech.
Preparing for the big day, Jaxon teamed up with his grandmother to create his speech.<br/>His father was kept in the dark about its content, making the moment even more poignant.
“His teacher asked him if he could give a little speech,” Carter recalled.
“That little speech turned into a full valedictory speech.
With confidence and grace beyond his years, Jaxon began, “When I entered Kindergarten at New Dawn Academy in August 2022, I was a small five-year-old child who had lost his beautiful mother a month earlier.”
He paused, gathering himself for a moment before continuing.
Talking about the lessons he learned, both academic and personal, he said, “My year at kindergarten helped me become braver, smarter, kind-hearted and more grateful.”
Jaxon’s gratitude extended to his teacher, whom he described as having a “big heart.”
He fondly remembered her comforting words: “When I was sad, she told me it was going to be okay.”
He also expressed his love and appreciation to his grandparents and father, saying, “You’re the best dad ever and I love you so much.”
The highlight of his speech was a moving dedication. “I dedicate my speech, my good grades, all my school honors and my kindergarten graduation to my beautiful mom, who I will always love and miss very much,” Jaxon said.
“I know she will always be with me in my heart.
Justin Carter was overcome with emotion as he said he was “shocked and speechless” as he watched his son’s touching tribute.
“The expressions, the words, everything he said, you could tell he meant every word,” he said.
“He didn’t fumble… it was remarkable.
New Dawn Academy Principal Conrad R. Koch shared his thoughts on Jaxon’s resilience and spirit. “I greet all the students in the morning and I always got a ‘good morning’ or a high five from him. He came to school with a good attitude, ready to learn,” Koch said. “Whether it was a spelling bee, learning to read, learning to write his name, whatever the challenge was, Jaxon was able to do it.”
