Young Mother Passes Away Days After Childbirth, Donates 12 Organs to Save Lives

everything in life is fair. Sometimes we suffer losses so great that it seems difficult to move on.

High school seniors Kathleen Thorson of Medford, Ore., and her husband, Jesse, were married. They married in 2006 after 14 years of dating. God gave them four beautiful children. Every detail looked flawless and their family was one that everyone admired.

However, disaster soon followed. Teddy, Kathleen’s youngest child, was born a few days after she suffered an intracerebral hemorrhage and died a few days later.

Her family’s world has collapsed. Jessy lost the love of her life and her four children were left motherless.

According to Jess, “We never spent a minute apart,” she said on GMA. “We had 14 years and we used every one of them… we don’t regret how we spent our time, just how much we had.”

There was a bright spot for the family in these difficult times. Organ donation was something Kathleen did. Twelve different people benefited from her kind gift of life.

“As we learn more about this process … for the recipients who receive Kathleen’s organs, it’s something that will continue to uplift us,” Jesse continued.

One person called Kathleen “amazing.” She was kind and gracious, and even after she died, she didn’t stop giving.

“I don’t know if she’s ever met someone she couldn’t love and care for,” Jesse told GMA. “He has an open heart.

Her readiness to love, her kindness, and her heart.”

Kathleen’s children will know their mother was a hero when she died. “I’m glad my kids know their mom did it,” Jesse replied. “My seven-year-old boy said in first grade that his mom ‘helps people.’

This story, in my opinion, should serve as a reminder of the importance of organ donation.

Kathleen, rest in peace.
