He turned and stared at Delphine as though the floor had opened between them, and Delphine backed into the wall, and the man who had called me useless in front of a hallway of witnesses suddenly looked terrified of the woman he had chosen over me.

There is a particular justice in watching a liar be lied to.

I won’t pretend I didn’t feel it.

But it was smaller than I’d expected, and quieter, and it passed through me and was gone, because I had already gotten the only thing from that corridor that I truly needed.

I had gotten my body back.

The rest was just the sound of their story collapsing.
