Sarah always liked working at a hotel in a seaside resort. It was one of the most rewarding jobs she’s ever had. She loved meeting people from all over the world and made their holidays special with her warm hospitality. Her colleagues often complained about long hours and difficult customers, but Sarah never saw it that way. Every guest was an opportunity for her to make a connection and make a new friend.
At a hotel restaurant, a waitress notices a guy and his teenage son and learns the reason why the young man looks depressed and disinterested in food. She is heartbroken by the cause. Sarah appreciated her work. What many people didn’t understand was that, at least where she worked, customer service was one of the most fulfilling jobs out there. Most of her guests at the hotel in the coastal resort were on holiday and she was always cheerful.
She was shocked to see the guy watching his teenage son with anxious eyes when they entered the room with them. They ordered the house special but the kid was moving the food on his plate while the guy was eating the food enthusiastically. His eyes were much more downcast than his father’s.
Was the pie good? Sarah asked as she happily emptied the boy’s plate as the apple pie and ice cream were almost untouched. To cover his blushing cheeks, the boy let his bangs fall forward.
Father spoke and smiled. The pie is fantastic, but Kyle doesn’t look particularly hungry right now.
You should be more up for lunch tomorrow because we have our BBQ special, Sarah smiled.
The man answered. “We’ll give it our all!” Then he stood up and pointed the young man in the direction of the elevator that went down to the rooms. Moments later, Sarah noticed he was talking to the manager in the lobby again. He looked extremely serious. The man approached Sarah after returning to the business. He asked, “Can I talk to you? Despite his grief, Sarah could see that he had a really attractive face and a pleasant voice.”
Sure,” Sarah replied.
“My son. He’s here for chemotherapy at the institute because he has leukemia,” the man stated quietly. So that he doesn’t feel like cancer is winning when his hair starts to fall out, he wants to shave his head tonight.
“Since I’m also going to shave my head, I wanted to ask you to refrain from making any comments. Please behave normally.” Sarah nodded, “Of course. Please don’t panic. I’ll talk to the rest of the team as well.
The guy smiled. “I’m grateful. I’m Oscar, by the way!” he exclaimed.
Sarah smiled as well. “This is Sarah. See you then!”
The next morning, Oscar and Kyle were surprised when they walked into the cafe for breakfast. Sarah also had her head shaved! “I thought I’d join the club,” she added with a smile, pointing to the bald father and child.
Kyle started to laugh. He exclaimed, “You look so stupid!” Sarah put her hands on her hips and scowled at him. “Funny? That’s what the biggest heads are sporting in Paris this season, I’ll let you know. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.”
The young man smiled at Sarah’s jokes instead of rubbing his bald head, and Oscar gave her an appreciative nod. As Oscar’s wife also died of cancer when their child was only seven, he raised Kyle alone.
Oscar was saddened when Kyle’s illness was discovered. The same adversary was back, and this time he risked losing everything he had left—including his beloved son. Sarah’s cheeky smile and her brave act cheered his heart.
After Kyle went to rest moments later, Oscar returned to the restaurant to talk to Sarah. I appreciate it,” he replied. “You have no idea the impact your action had on Kyle and me. You gave up your beautiful hair. I learned everything I know about love from her. I just wanted to share it.”
Oscar gave Sarah a hearty hug as tears flowed from his eyes. Sarah has been Kyle’s best friend ever since. On his days off, he takes father and son out to explore places.
Fortunately, Kyle responded favorably to the treatment and experts found him to be in remission. We will be back soon though. Oscar nodded while Kyle sobbed. “Another treatment?” Sarah asked.
Oscar grinned and replied, “No.” I was wondering if you could take time off to be with me, you said. “It’s a holiday.”
Sara smiled. “I would like to”
After a year, Sarah accepted Oscar’s engagement proposal. Kyle served as the best man during the couple’s marriage. The bride, groom, and best man had their heads shaved as a tribute to how they first came together. Everyone who attended sobbed because it was the most beautiful and touching wedding they had ever witnessed.
Kyle became a big brother when Sarah and Oscar welcomed their first child together two years later.
