A friend of Nadia’s named Rhea asked to meet me at a quiet tea house in Englewood.
She slid a black USB drive across the table and told me it held encrypted chat logs between Nadia and Damien Draper — the owner of Draper Dynamics, our fiercest competitor.
“Draper offered Nadia twenty-five million dollars,” Rhea said, barely above a whisper, “to get close to Marshall, record him, and set off a scandal that would crack your family’s grip on the market.
She took it because her father needed heart surgery he couldn’t afford.
When she tried to back out, Draper threatened to release footage of her.”
“So she betrayed Marshall,” I said slowly, “and got caught in her own trap.”
“It’s worse than that.” Rhea leaned in.
