My Parents Sent a Moving Truck to Claim Grandpa’s House—But the Brass Key He Left Me Led to a Deed They Never Expected
PART 1 — THE TRUCK IN GRANDPA’S DRIVEWAY
The first box was already inside Arthur’s pantry when the moving truck backed into the driveway.
Lauren stopped with another box against her hip and looked through the kitchen window.
“Did Mom order a truck?”
I set Arthur’s blue-rimmed plate on the counter and wiped a spot of gravy from its edge.
“No.”
Lauren lowered the box to the floor.
“Then why is one here?”
The truck eased backward until its tires stopped beside the porch.
A man in a gray sweatshirt climbed down and opened the rear doors.
Lauren glanced toward the hallway.
“Mom told me I could take the master bedroom.”
I turned from the sink.
“When did she tell you that?”
“Last night.”
She bent to pick up the box again, but did not lift it.
“What did she say?”
Lauren pressed her lips together.
“She said we should start bringing family belongings over before somebody else decided what happened to the house.”
