My Husband Texted “Miss You, Wife” on the Morning He Was Supposed to Marry Another Woman—Then His $280,000 Loan File Listed My House as Collateral
PART 1 — “MISS YOU, WIFE”
The phone lay beside the sink, screen bright against the white counter, with Graham’s message still open.
Miss you, Wife.
I read it twice while rinsing the coffee mug in my hand.
At the top of the screen, the public announcement he had posted three days earlier still showed the date of his wedding to Kendra.
Saturday, October 24.
Today.
I turned off the faucet.
For several seconds, the kitchen gave me only the hum of the refrigerator and the soft click of water leaving the tap.
Then the phone lit again.
Busy morning. Talk later.
I set the mug upside down on the towel.
Graham and I had been married long enough that I knew the language of his short messages.
He used Wife when he wanted something to sound settled.
He used Audrey when he wanted to discuss money, schedules, or something he expected me to resist.
This morning he had chosen the word that made everything else impossible to place.
I picked up the wedding invitation from the end of the counter.
Four o’clock.
The vineyard address was printed beneath Kendra’s name.
