Adrian & Marianne — The Twins’ Gold Medals
Sophie reached for my sleeve and pulled me closer.
The shutter clicked.
There was no trophy in the picture and no mansion in the background.
It showed people who had made mistakes, endured losses, built lives, and chosen to remain in the same frame for a moment.
Years earlier, I’d stormed down a marble corridor believing I could reclaim thirteen years by announcing that I was their father.
Instead, they had taught me to listen, to respect what I hadn’t built, and to arrive when invited.
I still could not recover the childhood I’d missed.
But when the girls started walking toward dinner and Sophie called back, “Adrian, are you coming?” I could answer the only way that mattered.
“Yes,” I said, and followed them.
