It is not a monument to my grief.

It is a channel for my love, a way of taking the enormous, unspendable love I have for two children who never drew breath and spending it, at last, on the living, in their name.

My children could not be saved.

But because they existed, however briefly, thousands of other children will be.

And every family kept whole by that foundation is a place for my love to go, a way of keeping my children present in the world not as an absence but as a source of care.

Their memory will not be a headstone.
