She tapped her yellow legal pad with an open fountain pen, leaving tiny black dots along the top margin.

“This completely destroys their claim that you withdrew the money in person,” Martha said.

“How fast can we get the bank’s security video?” I asked.

“I can file an emergency motion for preservation of evidence today,” Martha said.

“The county clerk charges three hundred and fifty dollars for emergency processing, plus ninety for service.”

I took out my paper cash envelope and laid four hundred and fifty dollars on her legal pad.

“That leaves me with ten dollars,” I said.
