The first showed my parents, Marissa, Jason, Owen, and Natalie on a white charter boat. Everyone wore sunglasses. Blue water stretched out behind them.

A marina sign in one corner confirmed they were at South Padre Island. The caption said: Family trip at last. All together where we belong.

I stared at the photograph. Mia was missing. I swiped. Another picture showed Natalie holding a tropical drink next to my mother. Another showed Owen steering the boat beside Jason.

Dad stood by the railing wearing the straw hat I had bought him for Father’s Day. No Mia. I zoomed into every corner. No blue swimsuit. No braids. No quiet six-year-old lingering partly behind an adult.

Andrew studied my expression. “What is it?” I turned the phone toward him. He scrolled faster than I had. “Where’s Mia?”

I called my mother. This time she picked up. Her voice sounded cheerful and slightly windblown. “Hi, honey. How’s Dallas?”
