Fifteen and a Half Inches
Maya had three appointments.
The eighteenth of January, the twenty-fifth, and the first of February.
The first one took two hours and ten minutes and she was measured in nine places and sat in three different frames and pushed each of them up a one-in-twelve ramp while a man with a clipboard timed her.
The second one was for the axle.
That is its own appointment.
They move it a centimetre at a time and she pushes a course, and then they move it again, and at some point they go too far and she tips, which is why there is a man standing behind her, and then they come back half a centimetre and that is her axle position, which is written on a card that she now carries in her wallet.
