If it can nearly happen to a woman like me, it can happen to anyone, and I refuse to let it be a live possibility for my daughter.

So I am building her, brick by legal brick, a life in which no man’s whim will ever be able to determine whether she has a roof or a future — in which she will be free, always, to walk away from anyone who does not treat her well, because walking away will never cost her her security.

That freedom is the true wealth.

That is what I am actually leaving her.
