She stepped around him.

As she crossed the foyer she noticed, without breaking stride, a heavy accent table draped in flowers that had been placed strangely close to the doorway — close enough that a person carrying a baby would have to turn sideways to pass it.

She turned sideways, passed it, and thought nothing more of it that night.

She would think a great deal about it the next day.
