Here They Are
They took my phone and my passport and my money and my child, everything external, everything that could be taken.
And what was left, when all of it was gone, was enough.
That is what I will teach my daughter: that they can take everything you have, and it will not be enough to defeat you, so long as they cannot take who you are.
And they cannot.
No one can.
It is the one possession that is truly, permanently, unassailably yours.
I did not know that, fully, before a beach in Phuket taught it to me.
My daughter will know it from the beginning.
That is the inheritance I am giving her, worth more than the house or the assets or anything a court decree can convey: the certainty, held from her earliest years, that her strength is hers alone, and that no one, ever, can steal it from a safe.
