I picked up a paper cup from the stack.

“What alerts?”

“The appointment reminders for Grace,” Paula said, adjusting the metal badge pinned to her collar.

“Our system logged three separate calls to his cell number between mid-September and last Tuesday.”

I held the paper cup under the spigot and pulled down the black rubber lever.

“He told me yesterday that nobody from the clinic called.”

“Every single one came back flagged as user declined,” Paula said.

“When someone hits the reject button on their phone three times in a row, our system automatically flags the file as non-responsive.”
