Chapter 11 — Seventeen Missed Calls
The screen lit up, and there they were: seventeen missed calls from a Canadian number, stacked one on top of another, and beneath them a single email that had landed while I was somewhere over the middle of the continent, asleep against an airplane window with no idea what was waiting for me at home.
I opened the email slowly, standing there in that ruined living room with my wife clinging to my shirt.
