Not because they made me stronger.

I was already strong.

They simply became part of my body.

No more shame than a surgical scar.

No more meaning than I chose to give them.

And what I chose was this:

They marked the last day I allowed fear of destroying a family to keep me inside a situation that was already destroying me.

The family I built afterward looked different.
