Göbekli Tepe is extraordinarily informative about the material dimensions of life and activity at the site.

It is not, and cannot be, directly informative about what the people who used it thought and believed.

The Fraudulent Interpretations

Because Göbekli Tepe is genuinely mysterious and genuinely remarkable, it has attracted a great deal of interpretive speculation that ranges from the merely unsupported to the frankly fraudulent.

The claim that Göbekli Tepe was built by an advanced but lost civilization — Atlantis, a prehistoric technological society, or some other hypothetical culture that predates the known historical record — is not supported by any evidence from the site.
