There was a short silence.

Then Mark said, “Fair point.”

Later, Tommy told me his father had let him teach the lesson.

He sounded so proud that I laughed.

“Did Dad learn anything?”

“He learned you have to use the same denominator,” Tommy said solemnly.

“Adults forget everything.”

He was right about more than fractions.
