She said I had always disapproved of her clothes, her friends, and her smoking, and that she was tired of being blamed for Daniel’s choices.

For once, on one point, she was right.

Daniel had made his own decision when he struck me.

But then she said something unexpected.

“Your son told me you were paying rent.

He said you wanted him to handle everything because you couldn’t manage your own money anymore.

I never saw the paperwork.”
