Those milestones mattered more.

The mountain lodge changed too.

Chloe sent me there because she thought distance equaled disappearance.

Instead, the lodge became the place where I discovered my son had trusted me with his unfinished work.

Then it became an office.

Then a home.

Eventually, simply a lodge again.
